Hello! I'm Sherise
Mother, Hypnotherapist & Birth worker
My name is Sherise, and I’m the founder of the Breathe Life Hypnobirthing and Antenatal program.
I’m a mother of two, who has personally experienced nearly every possible type of birth and birth intervention we know of today.
I’ve laboured and birthed in hospital, I’ve laboured and birthed at home. I have had first hand experience with a ‘big’ baby, a malpositioned baby, gas and air, pethadine, epidurals, sweeps, a spinal block, a caesarean, a VBAC, a water birth, as well as instrumental intervention. I had both over medicalised and uncomfortable, as well as natural, physiological experiences with birth.
These experiences has given me a deep rooted understanding of birth, our birth choices, the huge impact our births have on us as women, mothers, and on our newborn babies. It has instilled in me an intense passion to help expectant moms to be in control of their choices during labour and birth, which in turn lessens our chances of experiencing birth trauma.
Shortly after becoming a mother, I added Hypnobirthing Practitioner and Antenatal Teacher to my qualifications. I trained and qualified in London, under the mentorship and knowledge of Katherine Graves, the author of The Hypnobirthing Book, the founder of The Hypnobirthing Association and KGHypnobirthing – the leading organisation for Hypnobirthing teacher training around the world.
In the year 2022 we moved back to Cape Town, with my vision and motivation being one of changing the way women feel about and experience birth in our beautiful country. Today I support and educate women all over South Africa to ensure they have the tools and information they need for the positive birth experiences they deserve.

Breathe Life is here to educate, inform and prepare you mentally, physically and spiritually for your ideal birth, in the safest way possible for you and your baby.
How can Breathe Life help you?
The Breathe Life program is here to help you feel calm, confident, supported and in control of your decisions. We want to minimise the chance of unnecessary intervention by getting you well informed, whilst equipping you with practical tools to make your positive birth a reality.
Hypnobirthing is best compared to sports psychology. Marathon runners tend to use similar techniques to help them break through the 16 mile wall. It is nothing like the swinging pocket watch ‘stage hypnosis’ you might be familiar with, but instead it helps us to utilise the power of our minds to help our bodies perform at its best physically.
Our Hypnobirthing techniques are there for you to practice during pregnancy to help eliminate fear, and to get you to a place where you are wholeheartedly looking forward to experiencing labour and birth. They also act as a tool kit for you to use during labour itself, to aid relaxation and to promote the normal physiology of birth, whilst helping you maintain a sense of calm and comfort
The information we share in our program will leave you with a thorough understanding of the physiology of birth, your birth choices and all possible ‘what if’ situations. We’ve unpicked all the research, so that you don’t have to. You will finish the course feeling confident and equipped for any situation.
Research into Hypnobirthing has shown a reduced rate of intervention, eg. Less epidurals, less inductions, less instrumental births and caesareans. Although hard to believe, the choices you make in both pregnancy and labour itself can greatly influence the outcome of your birth. Combine our Hypnobirthing techniques with our knowledge and first hand experiences of navigating the birth system, and you can rest assured that intervention will only happen if it is truly needed.
Are you ready to prepare your body and mind for a positive birth experience?
I would love to be part of your journey to parenthood.
